A SENIOR COMPANION, LLC |
Senior Companion, LLC is not a franchise. We are a small company which allows us to focus on our seniors in a more personal and individual manner. What makes A Senior Companion, LLC distinctive is our personal commitment to our seniors. We know that building a relationship takes time. The owner and founder, Colleen Shwartz, spends the first few weeks with just the client and herself, thus allowing her to establish a more personal relationship. A care plan is developed based on routines, personalities and individual needs. Colleen is a Certified Nursing Assistant, certified in Alzheimer's and Dementia Care, Hospice Volunteer, Certified Pet Partner for Animal Assisted Therapy with the Delta Society as well as a Certified Elder Care Specialist.
Our caregivers are CPR and first aid certified, criminal background checks are run, and references are gladly provided on request. The time and commitment invested in our clients and companions makes our company unique in this ever-growing service industry. Colleen has been a CNA for over 10 years and continues to educate herself and our companions in all areas relating to senior issues.
Each client is matched with their own companion, omitting the stress of several different caregivers to one client. Colleen spends time with both the companion and the client to ensure that a bond of trust, reliability and friendship begin. This is the professionalism that sets a personal standard and passion that A Senior Companion, LLC represents in the field of 'senior care'.
We provide companion visits and services to seniors who are living independently in their homes or living with adult children who are caregivers. Our goal is to provide you or your loved one the assistance and services that are needed to maintain a happy life while staying at home.

Colleen Shwartz is the foundation of the company as well as one of the caregivers. She is passionate about horses and all things "western". She has worked with the elderly for more than 15 years. Colleen is a Certified Nursing Assistant, certified in Alzheimer's and Dementia Care, Hospice Volunteer, Certified Pet Partner for Animal Assisted Therapy with the Delta Society as well as a Certified Elder Care Specialist. |

Mary Kloewer (pronounced "Claver") is married with four children, three sons and a daughter. She was a teacher for many years before joining our team at A Senior Companion, LLC. She enjoys spending time with the seniors in her family and her community. She was a caregiver for her own mother until the summer of 2008 when her mother lost the battle against cancer and heart disease. The experience has inspired her to write a book titled Promise in the Sun, which is currently being published. |

Tiny Horse Helps Colorado Alzheimer's Patients
The Alzheimer's Association of Colorado is using a tiny horse to help patients. The miniature horse is named Rainey.
She visits Alzheimer's and dementia patients at nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
The Alzheimer's association says pet therapy is an important part of their treatment.
"Rainy's hugely popular," says Sara Spaulding with the Alzheimer's Association of Colorado. "Kids as well as seniors just really enjoy the opportunity to spend time with Rainy and it brings up a lot of memories particularly for people who have lived on farms when they were children."
Rainey is certified and she's been specially trained by the Delta Society.
